The latest version of iR Shell for the Sony PSP has been released with some new features as well as bug-fixes.

New feature summary:
- Support Playstation Network downloable games & demos.

- Interlaced TV support has been added for PSP slim. Games & homebrews launched via iR Shell will inherit the iR Shell TV mode. Most games will run at full speed with default CPU clock.

- For slim PSP TV out, added an option to control the audio output to PSP speaker. This will be useful for docking station with TV out & charging capabilities.

- Added an option to disable Memory Stick MagicGate support. This is meant to be used for PhotoFast microSD to MSPD adapter, or other similar non-MagicGate MS. By disabling the MagicGate support, you will no longer experience the annoying pause in XMB, such as turning on the PSP, switching off USB mode from XMB, quiting game/homebrew back to XMB, entering XMB video directory, etc.

- Added connection timeout support for nethostfs.

- For IR learning remote, added the ability to abort the learning process without waiting for timeout.

- Support user provided font files.

- Plus various bug fixes.

Loderunner is a remake of the 1983 classic by C_boy. It's a pretty fun 2D platformer in which you must grab the loot and escape the guards.

Here's a nice homebrew game for the Sony PSP handheld. It's called Boombastic and it's basically a clone of the hit Bomberman. There's a slight twist though, you'll be using a tank with the ability to drop bombs and launch rockets. The graphics are pretty good and it's an all around fun game to play, so check it out:

Alanceil has released an update to his Leveltool homebrew app for the Nintendo Wii. This handy little app is great for the handyman wii owner as it allows the Wii remote to be used as a "laser" type level. You can get it from the Wiibrew release page.

As Obama presided over a luncheon in the halls of Congress, a small army of movers began bringing the new First Family's belongings into the White House. Among the belongings arriving at the 216-year-old residence was a Nintendo Wii, which Obama's two daughters, Malia (age 10) and Sasha (age 7), received for Christmas. Australia's Herald-Sun newspaper reports that the console will be connected to the First Television in the mansion's family room, which will see its first young full-time users since then 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton took up residence in 1993.

Earlier this month, The New York Times reported that President Obama had been playing Wii Bowling with his daughters. He can also use the White House's real-life bowling alley to hone his infamously lacking bowling skills...until he acts upon his pledge to replace it with a basketball court. The alley was added by Richard Nixon shortly after he moved into the residence in 1969.

VentureBeat.com put up an article yesterday that shows Wii sales passing PS2 while the PS3 is on par with the GameCube. It seems that Nintendo and Sony have switched places from the last generation.

Based on sales numbers for the first 26 months of availability the Wii is on track to become the best selling video game console of all time. That title currently belongs to the Playstation 2 which has sold over 50 million units in the United States and an estimated 140 million worldwide.

In the first 26 months of availability Nintendo has sold 17.5 million Wiis while Sony sold 15.9 million PS2s within the same period of its life cycle. This means that in two years Nintendo has outsold the PS2s first two years sales by 10%. If this sales pattern holds then by 2014 Nintendo will have sold 55 million Wiis in North America and 154 million worldwide.

During the same intial 26 month period the PS3 has sold 6.79 million units while the GameCube sold 6.75 million. The total lifetime sales of the GameCube only reached 21 million and had Nintendo in last place for that console generation. Microsoft's Xbox 360 sold 9.2 million units in that first 26 month period, leaving them in a faraway second place behind Nintendo.

VentureBeat does say that not all is lost for Sony. Despite being in last place the GameCube was still a profitable console for Nintendo and its likely the Sony will eventually make a profit off the PS3. However, despite what Sony executives say, the chances of the PS3 making a comeback are slim, maybe even impossible at this point. Because as they point out, the numbers don't lie.

Nintendo has released dates for their new remakes of some of their Gamecube games. Pikmin is launching on February 6th while Mario Power Tennis will be available from March 6th. Both games now utilize the Wii remote and are revamped versions of the Gamecube classics.

Quote:

Nintendo's granted the first of its New Play Control series games for the Wii firm release dates, with New Play Control! Pikmin launching on February 6, while New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis will be available from March 6.

Offering revamped versions of GameCube titles, both games make use of the Wiimote to reinvigorate some of Nintendo's recent classics. There's more than just a modernised control scheme in offer as well - New Play Control! Pikmin features a revised save system that replaces the restrictive model of the original, while New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis adds more camera options and a new split-screen mode. Both form the first batch of seven titles receiving the refit treatment, with both Metroid Prime and ChibiRobo also slated to be released under the New Play Control banner.

The DS, not the Wii, breaks the PS2's hardware sales record and a game released in 2005 returns to the top ten.

Nintendo recently entered some new items into the Japanese trademark database: one of which we know about, the other a complete mystery.

The 'Wii Golden Handle' sounds peculiar at first, buts fans of Club Nintendo Japan will remember that as being the special edition of the Mario Kart Wii Wheel, available to platinum members of the online points-for-prizes service.

The second item refers to a new type of DS card, called the 'Houi Sensor Card,' which can be translated as a motion/movement card.

A similar device was made for a Japan-only title called Slide Mag-Kid, however this was a GBA slot device that required the DS to be resting on a table. This device however seems to suggest a DS game card sized device to achieve similar results.
